Do you know what variety it is?

Lots of different possibilities. If it was a wild seed grown fig It could be a male fig.

You could try pruning so it only grows one main stalk. Then once it&#039;s about 6&#039; tall pinch the apical bud so it focuses it&#039;s energy on ripening the figs.

					<description><![CDATA[My fig has died back multiple years now.  Each spring it comes back and makes multiple shoots up to 9 feet high.  6 to 10 shoots each year.  But, though it makes lots of figs, few mature.  Do I need to cut all but a few of the shoots in the spring?  The largest shoots are about 1.25 inches in diameter.  I give it 10-10-10 fertilizer each spring (otherwise I get no figs at all).  Recommendations??  Tulsa, OK]]></description>
