When we lived in Middle Tennessee, I loved having a fig in the garden – Chicago Hardy. We live in Wisconsin now, and it would be fantastic to have a potted fig which could be in our house in the winter and outside in the summer. I’ve read that you should overwinter them above 20 and under 50. We don’t have something like that (our basement is too hot, and our garage is too cold). Does a fig need that cold spell during the winter, or could we just bring it when the weather turns.

I would like som information on how to prune my fig tree I want to keep it more compact and bushy but it is growing tall and spreading out I am going to try to send pictures. Btw I had one tiny tiny fig starting but it fell off. (Why?)

In reply to JOSEPH SANSONE. You should only bring them inside after they have gone fully dormant. All leaves should drop before bringing inside your basement, then kept cool enough that they don't sprout new leaves until spring. I hope this helps!

Hello,
I am a novice and early beginner (2-3 years) just looking for fig tip for zone 6b. I’ve got two Chicago figs that I move from outdoors to indoors and have gotten a bit leggy since ringing them in and now they are stored in my basement at 40 F. Any helpful hints? Love to get emails as well!
